Conceived through a collaboration of K-Studio and Studio Bonarchi, Kalesma embraces a contemporary approach to Cycladic design. K-Studio places the social areas at the uppermost part of the site to allow for panoramic views from all angles of the property. Interior designer Vangelis Bonios adds handcrafted furniture pieces, from mid century inspired oak and rattan armchairs, to sculptural black lava stone coffee tables, mixed with contemporary designs from Rick Owens and Apparatus Studio. This organic look is heightened by gardens planted with 60 year old olive trees.
The design team draws from the island’s vernacular not just in terms of whitewashed volumes but also in terms of its simplicity, sculptural sensibility, and communal dimension. The property unfolds around a central square taking the form of a typical Cycladic village, creating a sense of community. Aloni, a circular structure used for grinding wheat into flour, has been retained and repurposed as an outdoor lounge.
