A more off the beaten path destination, Verina Astra takes its name from the Greek word for stars ‘Astra’, each suite named after a constellation. The complex’s layout creates an atmosphere of small independent houses, surrounded by gardens. The open lounge area has unobstructed endless views of the Aegean blue, a white village cascading over a distant hilltop, and at the bottom of the valley, the blue dome of a monastery dangling above an emerald cove. The hotel sits 150 meters above sea level where guests can walk down to access the sea.
The villages of Sifnos are linked by centuries old stone paths and walking trails, in a capers abound, hilly landscape, topped by pretty, whitewashed villages. Walking distance from the hotel is the picturesque village of Artemonas filled with neoclassic villas with gardens and yards. Sifnos counts about one church for every day of the year, one of them sitting right beneath the hotel. Pottery and ceramics workshops are also all around the island, each of them with their unique style.
